BERBON

The typeface ‘BERBON’ (bab) meaning door within the Arabic language has been designed for the use of headings and covers of Moroccan cultural and travel books. The typeface fits within the geometric San-Serif classification with decorative elements due to it being designed to be more embellished and attractive. Drawn from and inspired by the shapes and details found within the Moroccan door styles and new Moroccan arts.

INSPIRATION

The Hispano-Moorish architectural style of the Moroccan door’s originating within Spain (Andalusia). The Almoravids sent Spanish artisans to Morocco to which they introduced the graceful arches and loft domes which became hall marks of the style. The creators of the new Moroccan Arts also found inspiration from the Berber building materials of handmade bricks and the rough wooden beams. Due to the religion of Islam and their act to forbid the representation of animate forms the language consists of elaborate patterns of stars and other geometric shapes, abstracted plant forms, and the calligraphy known as arabesque.
